Last week I updated our blog post on British Names That Never Crossed the Pond. It highlights names in the England and Wales Top 1000 that are not in the US Top 1000.
You can probably think of a fair few off the top of your head. The kind that gets lots of Berries swooning in the forums (and others doing a hot take), like Imogen, Harriet, Freddie, and Rupert.
I narrowed it down to 100-ish names for each gender for the post, but I thought you might like to see the full list, without having to do the spreadsheet work yourself. So here are all the baby names in the Top 1000 in England and Wales in 2021, but not the US Top 1000. Enjoy!
That’s 482 girl names, and 464 boy names. (SO many nicknames. So many languages represented! SO much -Rose.) To make the Top 1000, a name had to be given to 35+ girls, or 30+ boys.
What do you think? Any surprises, or new favourites?
For me, it’s Toby. It’s so timeless here in England — it’s been in the middle of the Top 100 for 25+ years. I know a few of various ages but you rarely find two Tobies together. I hadn’t realised quite how much more patchy its use has been stateside!
