Cool and Quirky European Names We Love đ
Our newest name list is chock full of undiscovered gems!
Every time I think I must have seen every name under the sun, I seem to stumble across a treasure trove of totally new-to-me names. Itâs definitely a huge perk of the job!
I spent a few happy evenings this week trawling every European popularity list I could find for underused or completely undiscovered gems to include in Nameberryâs newest name list.
Our brand new mega-list of European Names gathers together the coolest and quirkiest Euro-chic names of the moment, as well as a whole host of little-known options to intrigue and inspire you.
And now Iâm wondering where some of these names have been all my life! I mean, how fun is Ziga âZiggyâ for a little boy? đđ
Unisex vs Nonbinary Names
Hot on our Instagram this week: Nonbinary Names.
Weâre seeing more and more searches for ânonbinary baby namesâ, as opposed to simply âunisexâ or âgender-neutralâ. Parents â as well as people changing their own names â are increasingly looking for names that truly transcend gender expectations.
Nameberry generally defines unisex names as those given to the minority sex at least 10% of the time. But although those names may technically qualify as unisex, chances are that in the real world, they will be perceived as gendered to at least some degree.
Our latest blog shines a light on the names to avoid if youâre looking for a truly gender-neutral choice.Â
Some might surprise you â who knew that boyish nicknames like Scottie and Davie now skew so female in the US? Or that Jess and Santana are so much more popular for boys?
The Most Eclectic Names Ever!
Youâve got to love the Berry hive mind đ
Berry @ashthedreamer was feeling like her list was getting a little stale, so she threw out the following challenge:
âIâd love to see lists that donât cater all to one style. Medieval names? Word names? Biblical names? Common names? Unisex names? Literary names? Hero names? Iâm up for pretty much anything, but nothing would make me happier than to see Phoebus, Jack, Habakkuk, Theophile, Vincenzo, Quill, Iokua, Apollo, Oriole and Zane all on the same list.â
And the Berries delivered! We so enjoyed reading all the amazing eclectic lists that our members came up with, from Mordecai to Maxence and from Priscilla to Pomelo.
