Yes, Baby Name Christmas has come on time this year! 🎉🎉
The shiny new data for 2020 was released on Friday, and it included some big surprises!
Fantasy-inspired Mazikeen entered the Top 1000 for girls, Denise and Denisse both ranked among the fastest-rising names of the year, and the tragic deaths of Kobe and Gianna Bryant in January of last year inspired a boom in related names.
Stay tuned to the Nameberry blog for lots of analysis of the key names and trends of the year over the next couple of weeks.
In case you missed it, you can find out which names took the 2020 top spots here. And check out all of the new entrants to the Top 1000 here.
Best Uber-Rare Names on the 2020 List
There’s always a lot of focus on the highest-ranking and fastest-rising names when the data comes out each year – and rightly so!
But what about the super-rare names at the other end of the list? The SSA records all names given to five or more babies of each sex, and there are some real hidden gems to be discovered at the bottom of the charts.
Here’s a selection of our favorite names given to just five baby boys or girls in 2020. Truly dedicated name nerds (hey, no judgement here 😉) can download the full dataset from the SSA and go treasure-hunting for themselves!
