When naming is a family affair
Ah, the perennial question of when to reveal the name.
Lots of parents, celebrity and civilian alike, wait until the baby’s arrived before announcing their name to the world. There are lots of good reasons for this, like wanting to meet your child before making the final decision, or not wanting relatives’ input to put you off your favorite choice.
Often, it’s what name experts suggest too — although there are other options.
So this week’s “How I Named My Baby” is a refreshing surprise. Dara and her husband scrapped their frontrunner name because her family hated it.
“I’m really close with my mom and sisters so having them like the name was just as important as my husband liking the name.”
The takeaway? Every family is different, so you do you — whether that means telling NO ONE your child’s name until the ink on the birth certificate is dry, or getting all your loved ones involved in the decision.
