This week there’s a very special Nameberry announcement: huge congratulations to our editor Emma (aka Katinka on the forums) on the arrival of her fourth child, a little boy named Sasha Gabriel.
On his name, Emma says:
“Sasha has been a longtime love of mine. I love its soft yet energetic sound, and the Russian connection feels especially fitting because I studied it at university, where my husband and I met and married.
“Gabriel is a strong and sensitive underused classic here in the UK, which is very much our style for middle names. We love its literary links and its ties to the festive season.
“Both names work well in French and English, which is important to us as we have French-speaking family.”
We’re so thrilled they got to use an all-time favourite name. Welcome Sasha, and congratulations to all the family! …And props to our Name Guru Sophie, and all the Berries in the forums, who guessed correctly that it had to be Sasha.
Happy Hanukkah Names
Today marks the start of Hanukkah — so it’s been a big holiday weekend if you’re celebrating that and Thanksgiving too!
In honor of the eight nights of Hanukkah, we spotlight eight modern Hebrew names with that are also names that mean light, such as Nera and Zohar.
We’ve also got a long list of Hanukkah names that prove there’s much more to Hebrew names than just biblical names (much though we love them too).
Did you miss…?
If you’re still in holiday spirit, it’s not too late to find out your Thanksgiving name. (Sincerely, Jabez Increase Ruggles)
