The Olympic games are in full swing, which can only mean one thing*: international namespotting!
*for name nerds.
Scanning the British team, there are plenty of standouts. To list but a few: Asha, Brodie, Bryony, Caragh, Chijindu, Eilish, Frazer, Galal, Geraint, Hector, Jona, Karriss, Kye, Laviai, Mahama, Neah, Polly, Sholto, Sky, Tao, Zharnel.
Some even have sporting name stories of their own. Imani-Lara Lansiquot, a sprinter, was named after the cricketer Brian Lara, and skateboarder Bombette Martin after her boxer dad’s nickname, Bomber.
(You can add your own favorites to the list here.)
I’m looking forward to discovering more medal-winning names from around the world over the next couple of weeks. Who knows which names this year will become as iconic as the likes of Usain, Bode and Simone?
