Happy Independence Day to everyone celebrating! (We celebrated by refreshing our list of names meaning freedom.)
The baby name connection — yep, there’s always one — is that we’re all becoming more independent namers. Year on year, the statistics show that the number of different baby names keeps growing, and the most popular names are given to an ever-smaller proportion of children.
And the future? Looks even more so. This prizewinning piece by teenager Sanai, written in response to an article by Nameberry’s Pam, celebrates authentic, diverse and independent names. I cannot wait to see what the next generation brings to the baby name table.
