When you’ve already told the world if you’re expecting a girl or boy, the only big exciting news left is the name. When to reveal it is a topic of hot debate. And if you decide to keep everyone waiting? You might feel pressure to make it worth the wait.
Did Meghan Markle and Prince Harry feel that for their daughter? They must have known that Lilibet Diana would make ripples: Diana isn’t surprising, but no one saw Lilibet coming.
(Although hat tip to those who guessed Lily in our Instagram competition. Word is she’ll be known as oh-so-close Lili.)
Even if you're not trying to stun with the world with an unexpected choice like Lilibet, you may want to wait to reveal the name until after the birth to short-circuit discussion and critiques over your choice. It's hard to imagine, for Harry and Meghan, a name that would NOT inspire snarky comments from some quarters and admiration from others, and so it is often for the rest of us. Whether you're naming your child Jack or Jacaranda, framing it as a big announcement after the birth renders outside commentary not only moot but rude.
Not only is sweet Lilibet perfect for the breakaway-royal couple, it also fits a lot of current trends. (I reckon that makes their Baby Name DNA type Charmer-Influencer.) So if, after the initial surprise, you feel yourself warming to it — you’re not alone.
