As the world becomes more connected, international popularity charts are growing more and more similar. Names like Sophia and Emma, Noah and Leo are among the top global names trending across a wide range of countries.
Even the top Nameberry names around the world resemble each other more than they did even a few years ago. Aurelia and Eloise, Theodore and Felix make the Top 10 most-viewed names in at least a dozen countries each, according to our updated data for 2025.
And while there are some interesting one-offs in that data (why is Wizard trending in China?) I was itching to discover more of each country’s quirky favorites.
To find some of the most distinctive baby names from around the globe, we analyzed the Top 500 most-viewed names on Nameberry for each country and identified the names that only appeared on a single country’s list.
These may or may not correspond to babies actually given these names, particularly in English-speaking countries (I doubt there are many baby girls in Canada called Antarctica). Still, you’ll get a taste of naming cultures and conventions worldwide.
