In the words of Taylor Swift, “It’s me. Hi. I’m the problem, it’s me.”
It’s my fault that Luxury was the top Nameberry name of 2023 — let me explain.
Last year, the Nameberry editorial team was tasked with identifying the top names we were watching for the year ahead.
First on my list was Luxury — a name lingering at the bottom of the charts but surely set to rise further. After all, this was the year of Lux obsession and Nick Cannon’s very wordy baby names. Who could blame me?
The Berries were intrigued and so were the press, who linked to our story and claimed that Luxury was going to be the biggest name of 2023 (that wasn’t exactly what I was saying…)
As a result, Luxury got a lot of views on the site, which propelled it up charts. It’s been our top girl name for all of 2023, and takes the prize of the most-viewed name on Nameberry for the year.
In my defense, Luxury more than doubled in popularity between 2021 and 2022, so I was clearly on to something.
I once again challenged the team to tell me the names we’re watching for 2024, and while most of the names are fairly accessible, there are some, well, dramatic choices on my watchlist for 2024. See my (and the rest of the team’s) predictions here:
And Speaking of Predictions…
Did I guess the name of Shawn Johnson and Andrew East’s new baby?
We’re going to have to wait a minute to get the answer, since — as far as I know — their baby hasn’t made an appearance yet. But based on my interview with Shawn and Andrew, I think my guesses are spot-on!
My original predictions video for the Easts is below, and you can watch my conversation with them on Youtube. As you can probably tell, I had a lot of fun chatting with them about names!
