My fellow Nameberry editor Sophie and I each put together a list of 100+ uber-rare names you’ve (probably) never heard – one for girls, one for boys.
Check out the girls’ post here and the boys’ version here – and then let us know how many were really new to you!
If you knew more than half the names on each of these lists, then you’ve definitely earned the right to call yourself a proud name nerd… no, name connoisseur 😎
Inspiring Black History Names
Earlier this week, President Biden officially signed a bill making Juneteenth a federal holiday in the US 🇺🇸
Celebrated on June 19, Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when slaves in Texas were finally freed – over two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Abraham Lincoln.
Present at the signing was 94-year-old activist Opal Lee, who in 2016 walked from Texas to Washington DC to campaign for the official recognition of the holiday. Opal makes a beautiful and inspirational new addition to our list of Black History Names for babies.
Name of the Week: Solstice
Tomorrow marks the summer solstice – the longest day of the year, and the official start of summer in the northern hemisphere (woohoo!)
I actually know a little Solstice, and this rare gender-neutral name feels like such an undiscovered natural gem.
It’s highly unusual (given to just 10 babies in 2020) but has a very name-like sound – reminiscent of quiet classics like Alice, Beatrice and Clarence. Plus, it’s just full of the joys of summer! ☀️
