This week we featured our annual recap of Nameberry's newest arrivals. Birth announcements for 64 new Babyberries – 41 girls and 23 boys – were featured on our forums over the past year.
These names were hand picked — and in a few cases, hand crafted — by our very own Berries.
So without further ado, here is a breakdown of some of the most notable name trends amongst real Berry parents in 2024.
Top names in 2024
Names given to 3 babies:
Elizabeth, Violet, William
Names given to 2 babies:
Clara, Josephine, June, Arthur, Hugo, John, Lewis
Nameberry Classics
These “Very Berry” names remain popular amongst name nerds each year. Stylish vintage revivals and sweet spot names rank amongst the most popular names on Nameberry, and many of them have made it to the mainstream now as well.
Here are a selection of Namebserry classics that made appearances in Berry birth announcements this year.
Audrey, Clara, Eliza, Elizabeth, Estelle, Josephine, Juliet, June, Lyra, Mary, Ruby, Thea, Violet, Vivian
Arthur, Asa, Callum, Casper, Dashiell, Dexter, Ellis, Frederick, Henry, Hugo, Julian, Remy, William
Extravagant Names
One of the most notable trends this year was a love for extravagant, romantic, elaborate girl names. Many of these were paired with a short and sweet nickname, such as Marcella “Marcie”, Leonora “Lena”, and Imogene “Immy”. Here are some of the gorgeous extravagant picks from 2024.
Catalina, Cordelia, Imogene, Leonora, Linnea, Marcella, Marielle, Penelope, Persephone, Serafina
Croc Names
One of our top trend predictions for 2025 is Croc Names. Similarly to the beloved shoe brand, these clunky cute names are the epitome of geek-chic.
As we all know, Berries are always ahead of the curve. One signature talent of our wonderful Berries is finding diamonds in the rough before they make it to the mainstream.
Here are some of the hidden gems revived by Berries this year. Watch out, as this just may signify that Agnes and Angus, Winifred and Watson will soon become the next Mabel or Margot.
Agnes, Alberta, Augusta, Claudia, Frances, Imogene, Philippa, Tabitha, Winifred
Angus, Basil, Casper, Ernest, Harmon, Rudolph, Watson
Fast Fashion Names
Another of our 2025 naming trends is Fast Fashion Names — a growing phenomenon where parents are mixing and matching familiar sounds to piece together brand new, personalized creations.
Two stunning fast fashion names were created by our Berries in 2024, both innovatively honoring loved ones.
Lynevra — combination of Lynn + Ginevra
Ivalene — combination of Iva + Arlene
Chic “een” Ending
The most intriguing trend to me in 2024 was the assortment of girl names ending in this distinct “een” sound.
While the last few decades have been dominated by names ending in -lyn, the rise of fashionable Josephine and Evangeline have made the “een” sound — last popular around the midcentury 1900s a la Darlene, Christine, Noreen, etc. — newly chic again.
These names — while not all French in origin — have a sophisticated French flair. Here are the selection of names ending in the “een” sound chosen by Berries this year.
Delphine, Imogene, Ivalene, Josephine, Helene, Selene
International Finds
Berries are always exceptional at finding hidden gems from cultures across the world. Here are some of the lovely international picks featured in birth announcements this year.
Anouk, Arwen, Chiara, Fenna, Ingrid, Maret, Olenna
Angelo, Johan, Rafferty, Santiago
Word Names
From established classics like Violet and Lily to modern up-and-comers Ridge and Jubilee, Berries have always and will always appreciated a word name. Here are all of the nature and word names given to Berry babies this year.
Hazel, Ivy, Jubilee, Lily, Maple, Pearl, Plum, Rose, Rowan, Ruby, Violet, Wren, Zinnia
Basil, Peregrine, Reed, Ridge
Miscellaneous Gems
A few last shoutouts from this year’s Babyberry cohort, here are a handful more captivating picks that deserve an honorable mention.
Bridie, Bronte, Capri, Charleston, Clio, Ezra, Una
Conan, Jem, Meyer, Renwick, Zebedee, Zebulun
Congratulations to all of our 2024 parents, and here is to many more beautifully named Babyberries in 2025!
What is your favorite 2024 Babyberry trend?
Extravagant 2024 namer here! My daughter, Cerelia "Cece" was born in January. Found the name on NB a few years back, fell in love with it and spent the whole time until she was born crossing my fingers that it wasn't used by a celebrity or as a character in a bestselling novel or something that would spoil it by making it too trendy
I just had my baby 10 days ago. You actually did a blog post on my naming dilemma (Irish astronomer husband not loving Rory as a nn to Aurora). After all the hoopla we ended up going with Chloe Jade, which wasn’t even on our list. We named her 10 hours after she was born. I was obsessed with Nameberry my whole pregnancy and kept trying to find that perfect name but nothing ever stuck. I also fell into the trap of wanting a name that wasn’t too popular but what I ultimately realized about myself is that I’m not an adventurous name person and that’s ok. Even though Chloe is a top 30 name I actually don’t know any at my kid’s school, preschool and I don’t have any friends or family that have used the name. Eva, Ronan, Conor and Chloe and I’m never having another baby so I’m happy to have name anxiety behind me 🎉
