I am, I am! I still have hard copy baby names books and go through them often. The first inkling about names that I can remember is lying in bed as a child naming all the kids in the orphanage I ran! HAHA
I'm a novelist and my idea of a great way to spend an afternoon is to spend it trolling through the pages of Nameberry, filling my digital baby-name book with all the delicious names I find there.
It depends. Sometimes I find a really spectacular name that I just HAVE to use and build a character around that name.
Like the name 'Rhydian Cobb' -
I see him as a Jack Reacher-type character, except that Rhydian has long black hair that he wears in a ponytail, has a short, close-cropped beard and he likes to smile at his prospective fight partners to frighten them.
I'm a teenager, but I'm obsessed with names. I have a very rare name myself, which definitely sparked my interest! I started reading blogs and looking through stats in middle school, but names have intrigued me for as long as I can remember. I used to hear names and think "ooh, I have to write a story with a character with that name!" but that was mostly when I was little.
Ever since I could read I've been interested in names. In my case, I'm AuDHD (co-occurring Autistic and ADHD) which contributes greatly.
Definitely shared by a lot of name lovers!
I love names!

Do you start with the name or the character ?
It depends. Sometimes I find a really spectacular name that I just HAVE to use and build a character around that name.

I would write little stories when I was in kindergarten and first grade and my favorite part was picking out names for my characters!
Itβs the best! Also though I have to admit I prefer short names for my characters because theyβre easier to type.
