Welcome to Baby Name Purgatory. My colleague Clare coined the term to describe this time of year — the few weeks before the new national data comes out.
It’s difficult to do anything while in Baby Name Purgatory. The data we do have is now 18 months outdated, and the anticipation of new numbers, names, and trends to analyze is all we can think about.
We’ll officially be released on May 12 at 9 am EDT, but we have some exciting plans while we bide our time. Keep your eyes on your inboxes for a contest revival (OG Berries know!) and a special giveaway.
In the meantime…
It’s Quiz Time!
Can you guess what these names have in common?
All five names appear on a list together — some grouped by style or image, others by origin or meaning, and the rest by some other factor that ties them together.

If you’ve ever thought, “Wow, I really wish Nameberry had a list of vegan baby names or androgynous fairy tale names or old-fashioned Japanese boy names”, there’s a solution: make your own list!
Maybe you’ll write about names inspired by your state or city. You can collect names that fit a pattern or those that match a particular aesthetic. You may even tell us the most embarrassing names on our site 🙈
I, for one, have lists going about the names of dogs in my neighborhood and names I’ve only encountered on one person.
Pro tip: you can include names on your list that aren’t in the Nameberry database. We often add names to our database from popular userlists, so introduce us to all of your quirky favorites!
Create your own list (make sure it’s public!) and then let us see it — leave a comment or reply to this email with a link.

This quiz made me think: the first group were all naes containing four letters, one group contained author names, and another contained names of famous actresses. One group also contained names of famous people. Great quiz!
